Lincoln’s International hotel brand invests in the future
The Owners of the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel on the Brayford Wharf have submitted plans to extend the luxury hotel, which includes a new state-of-the-art conference and banqueting suite, an additional 39 luxurious guest bedrooms and over 30 additional parking spaces.
The multi million pound investment will create an entire new bedroom wing at the back of the property using land recently purchased on Newlands, additional parking and direct access to the hotel from Newlands will also be a key part of the development, reducing traffic on the congested Brayford Waterfront.
The existing Ballroom will be extended to cater for over 350 guests for dinner and an additional large size Function Suite will be added on the 4th floor with a skyline terrace with views of uphill Lincoln, the Castle and the Cathedral creating a truly memorable venue for future brides and grooms of Lincolnshire.
The additional bedrooms and event space will play a vital role in attracting large out of town events and conferencing which will help drive the local economy and cement Lincoln as a truly International business destination.
Leigh Hall, Co-Owner, commented:
“Since opening in December 2011, the business has gone from strength to strength thanks to great support from the local community. We have seen steady growth in occupancy and demand for large out of town events which typically go to some of the larger cities in the North of England. With the extra rooms and additional Conference space we will be looking to secure those large events and provide a truly fantastic wedding venue with indoor and outdoor space with the Cathedral as the back drop for those memorable pictures”
Emma Tatlow, Visit Lincoln, commented:
'It is encouraging to see a quality hotel such as the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln looking to further develop. The addition of bed spaces is really good news; 2015 has been a particularly successful year for Lincoln's Visitor Economy, and we expect to see this growth continue in future years. There are certain times of the year when it is very difficult to find available rooms. We also need more conference and event space and to be able to hold larger events in the city centre. To be able to fulfil our ambitions of growing the visitor economy the addition of further bedrooms and event space will certainly help. Feedback from the accommodation sector suggests that 2015
has been a very busy year - there is certainly room in the market for additional bedrooms.
It is also good to know that there is confidence in the city and that a brand like DoubleTree is prepared to invest further in Lincoln. We wish the team every success with the project and are already working closely with them to encourage more people to come to Lincoln, and to stay longer in the city.'
